What is happening:
I got a new job (temporarily)
I may be going (finally) to CIT next year.
I still drink like a fish.
Okay, new job - working with disabled and disadvantaged kids as the go camping, caving, canooeing etc. etc. I like the philosophy; encouring physical and fun activities for those whom are usually held back by the low self esteem their disability gives them. Go on, mr paraplegic, get out of that wheelchair and climb that mountain. You ain't getting fed till you do. (I told that joke last night and only appeared to offend one out of four people. Not a bad statistic as far as I can tell)
CIT - finally. Yes!
Fish-drinking - Okay, okay, I know I say in almsot every second update that I'm going to stop my drinking destroying what little dignity I have left. But then, after drinking way way way way too much way way way way too often, I have pondered on the possibility of removing the other factor in the equation - people. That's right - I should start drinking alone.
Fired by the bluesy romance of Chris Thorogood's song (not the bad to the bone one, the other doom de doom de doom de doom one), I have been pondering on becoming that guy at the pub who sits in the darkest corner all by himself.
This man is a true drinker. He's not the one who stands by the bar yelling at the band on stage and making a general goof of himself in a desperate bid to make friends, he's not the one that got abandoned by his christian friends after that deciding pint and is now desperatley trying to make the funds to solve his transportation issues, which he will spend on getting another beer. He's the silent watcher, glowering with menace from that removed table shrowded in shadows.
Who is this man? Is he just a loner? Has he got relationship troubles?? Is he planning to burn down the bar??? Is he completely insane???? Oh my god, what is he doing???!!! Someone, just please tell me now!!!
This man is all of the above, and more. But all of the violence in him is held down by his mere cool. He doesn't need to explode to take his vengeance on this cruel world, he doesn't need to shout out to be heard. He just watches and drinks, keeping more dignity than anyone else around him. Because this man, he drinks alone.
(Fortunatley I have too many good friends that share my passion for drinking for me too go through with that crazy notion. But a man can entertain his stupid ideas, can't he?)
