I thought I'd post some more photos I took in Vietnam, this time I haven't bothered with gimping as there are more of them than time allows.
At a pit stop on the way to Halong bay I came across this cart and thought it would make a nice photo:
Halong Bay is named after these things (Halong translates to "dragon's scales"):
Some kids at Sapa square playing this hacky-sack style game which is popular in Vietnam:
A street in Sapa market:
The rest are photos from a trek through a valley near Sapa:
There is extensive rainwater irrigation throughout the valley, and the farmers find some interesting things to do with the water. The following is a lever used to crush rice:
We found this man who had drank too much rice wine during the
Tết festivities. We gave his wife some water so that he didn't dehydrate too badly:
Kieren and Dank annoyed the girls on the trek by jumping on this dodgy suspension bridge:
Some children playing in the dirt:
There are a number of ethnic tribes around Sapa, I think these children are Black Hmong (I can't tell the difference between them). The girls come to town to sell clothes ("you buy from me!") and speak reasonably good English, many of them can be found drinking on the streets of Sapa and are more than happy to have a chat:
A small classroom:
Anyone fancy crossing this bridge?
The villiager on the right was also partying hard for Tết, and he refused to let the males in our group pass until we'd had a swig of rice wine out of his buffalo horn:
Very drunk on rice wine:
Keren and myself are planing to revisit Vietnam in November along with Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, and maybe the Phillipines and a few other places. We were planning to visit Central & South America along with the US instead, but changed our minds as Asia is just too cheap to pass up. You can spend about 3 months backpacking for ~$AU5000.
