This year as my band of the year for 2006, I would like to introduce probably one of the more popular and upcoming groups in the hardcore scene. This band is “Walls Of Jericho”. Through many drummer changes over the years and a hiatus which lead to a 2 year breakup, Walls Of Jericho have gotten there name out in the hardcore scene. They have evolved a lot from the era of “A Day And A Thousand Years”, to now of the era of “With Devils Amongst Us All”. The sound has progressed along with there live shows, which have become more energetic with more of a fan base and newer tunes.
The reason I have chosen this band as the band of the year is because of how much they have done in this year. The band has recorded probably one of the best hardcore albums I have ever heard. The band hit up many tours this year big and small. To promote the upcoming album, they were picked by there record label Trustkill Records to go on the Trustkill tour with Roses Are Red and Bullet For My Valentine which was a successful tour. After that tour they right away went on a tour every hardcore/metal band dreams to join “Ozzfest” and played on the second stage (rotating slots) along side on the stage: All That Remains, Strapping Young Lad, Black Label Society and more. After that tour they jumped ship to the major nu metal tour “” (also a name of a song from there first full length). On this tour they got to play with bands such as Dir En Grey, 10 Years, Flyleaf and the 2 biggest bands Family Values in the genera Deftones and Korn. A small while after that tour ended they went on smaller tours with bands such as Bleeding Through, Terror, Sick Of It All, Arise And Ruin and more. In 2007 they are already billed to open for Kittie and along side them will be a heavily armed artillery of acts such as 36 Crazyfists, Dead To Fall and In This Moment. There shows are so crazy and energetic I am sure they could power up a town with all the energy this band has. Many of there fans also go crazy that they go flying everywhere. Circle pits, throwdowns, crowd surfing, fights, accidents, this band has anything a concert can have. I never miss this band and if you haven’t seen this band play then you have to put this on your to do list before you die.
I had the great chance to meet this band and talk to all the members. I have got to meet a lot of bands and I have to say Walls Of Jericho is one of the nicest and best bands I have ever got to meet. On stage while setting up there own equipment they are fun to watch as they say stuff to each other or the guy on the sound board having some inside jokes, like checking the mics as if they are getting ready for liftoff. During the sets they do not have a angry look, just a having a fun time thrashing around look which is awesome because its different then many of the acts these days. After sets Candace always thanks the crowd giving handshakes and what not’s.
Mike Hasty, Candace Kucsulain, Chris Rawson, Dustin Schoenhofer and Aaron Ruby are some of the greatest musicians ever and there music shows that you don’t need to make your music complicated to make amazing music. With the sound these guys have I could see them being asked to joining another big tour such as Warped Tour and ripping up the tour with there thrashing tunes. I can’t wait to see this band again and I hope to chat with them and become friends with them. This is an addicting band and if you are not addicted start now.
