I can believe that.

Ah... multiple things, really. The spirit of the Ring is back, for one.

... Something like that? I know at some point he said he was Zorc, but he's also the King of Thieves...

Haaa. Did I ever tell you how the Millennium Items were created?

Nope!

Is it story time?

I suppose it is.

Back when my father was Pharaoh, before I was born, Egypt was losing a war against some would-be invaders. My uncle -- his twin brother -- told him that they had found a way to save Egypt. By creating the Millennium Items depicted in a book of dark magic, they would have unlimited power. My father agreed, but my uncle didn't tell him how, exactly, said items would be created.

My uncle set off-- abandoning his wife and child, for he knew what he was going to do would set people against him. He went to the far off village of Kul Elna. ... There, he and my father's troops slaughtered ninety-nine people of the village, leaving all dead but for one child. They then melted the villagers in a pot of gold, and completed the ritual. All of my father's troops died from the magic, I believe. My uncle came back alone, walking through the desert to deliver the items and save Egypt.

The child -- who had witnessed the deed done in the name of the Pharaoh -- is the spirit of the Ring.
