finished harry potter yesterday.

without going into plot details, there was one main thing about the book that irritated me... the vast amount of time that was spent on elaborating the characters' very cliched, "high-school" relationships. i was fully expecting more elaboration on the classes and what they learned, seeing as how harry is going to need all the knowledge of magic he can get if he's going to finish the last book. or, this space in the book could at least have been spent developing the world of the book more. i guess i just don't see what purpose these myriad ponderings about romantic relationships will possibly serve to the overall plot. what i did immensely enjoy about the book was the elaboration into the past of a certain, very mysterious character- that was fascinating. i've been reading all these theories about the true meaning of the events in the book, but i've never been one to actively analyze everything that i read, so i'll refrain from that.

in other news, everybody should read "the elegant universe". including you.
