My Los Angeles Dodgers are beating the Reds 9-2 in the top of the 8th, and since the Dodgers have been sucking, this is all good. Nomar'd been hitting like crap and he's done well today, so hopefully this isn't my guys blowing their wad and they're just getting in the groooove.
(Update: We won 9-3, after one of the Reds hit a monster homer, 461 feet or so. Yay us!)
And omg, the funniest thing ever is a new commercial starring
Tommy Lasorda, our 1976-1996 manager, who has been with the Dodgers in one capacity or another since 1949. (His current position: "Special Advisor to the Chairman" where his responsibilities include "scouting, evaluating and teaching minor league players, acting as an advisor and ambassador for the Dodgers’ international affiliations, and representing the franchise at more than 100 speaking engagements and appearances to various charities, private groups and military personnel each year." Thanks, Wikipedia.) Tommy's just a Dodger man through and through; everyone loves him, and he's like a goodwill ambassador. He's popular like Santa Claus around here, and just as fat and jolly. Anyway, they've been doing Bobblehead Nights at the stadium for over a year now, and next week they're doing one for our new manager, Joe Torre. First 50,000 fans get a Joe Torre bobblehead. So on the commercial, Tommy's got this Torre bobblehead and he's talking to it, asking, "Joe, after being with the Yankees so long, do you really love the Dodgers?" (then he makes it nod). Tommy is just a hoot. Honestly, he'll do anything for his team.
Other things, completely random:
Written during my interminable flights home Friday:
The guy sitting next to me got off the plane in Wichita, so I have an empty seat between me and RoseMary from Virginia, a senior citizen who's never flown alone before and literally didn't know how to fasten her seat belt. She's sweet, but you know if the oxygen masks drop I'll have to put mine on first before assisting her with hers.
Barack Obama will be on "The Daily Show" tonight. Must watch!
