Yom HaAtzmaut

It's Yom HaAtzmaut!!! Israel's independence day! YYYEEEYYY!!!! :D

I went to a dinner run by Nefesh B'Nefesh and AACI (Americans and Canadians in Israel...or something like that), and it was at one of their representatives houses really close to the Merkaz Klita, and we had falafel and hung out a bit and then walked over to see the fireworks!!

Fireworks in Israel are not the same as fireworks in the US. They're way more impressive in the US, which was slightly disappointing, but still really awesome, cause, you know, I'm in Israel, and it's Yom HaAtzmaut, and everyone else in the country did the same thing I did and went to a big Yom HaAtzmaut celebration to celebrate Israel's independence.

I never felt that in the US. That sense that in the entire country basically everyone is doing the same thing as I am. It's really an incredible feeling.

There were performances and stuff after, but I didn't stay for very long -- my head started to hurt and so did my stomach, so I was really happy that the buses were running and I took the bus back home.

There was an entire street full of vendors selling food. Cotton candy, corn, candied apples, popcorn, nuts, and all sorts of other candies.

And there were all sorts of glow in the dark necklaces, and all those things they sell at Disney when it gets dark before and during the fireworks show...

So it was kind of like being at Disney, being at the fair, and the 4th of July all at the same time. At least, the 4th of July events I've been to involved some performance, and then the finale of fireworks. Here the fireworks were in the middle. There was stuff before (which I didn't go to cause I was at the dinner thing) and then the fireworks, and then the celebrations continue.

And there's music playing in the streets, and so many cars have Israeli flags, and there are flags hanging out the windows of a lot of the buildings...

It's happy.

I'll post pictures in the same post as my Pesach excursions pictures post. Soon!!
