I've finally posted
photos that I took from the con. There are 93 pics there, but no videos.
Here are some of my favorites:
This I like because of the sunset reflecting off the building to the left. The brown building in the middle is the con hotel, the Adams Mark, taken from the backside (the 16th Street Mall is on the other side of the building).
I couldn't get a good shot of the suiters in front of the Hard Rock Cafe, and this picture was actually one of the worst, except that it shows the initial reactions of the people at the patio tables. I'm particularly amused by the guy on the left, sitting on the edge of the patio fence, right next to the Nala costume--he's evidently a closet "paw slut." ;)
CP on right, not sure who that is on left (his first time in suit -- he was great!). This one cracked me up. Sure, it's neat because it's cute, and because you can see reflections of other furs in the window (Kage's easy to recognize!), but the part that amused me was that, seconds before CP and his friend approached the window, I saw their target: a yuppie lady sipping coffee inside, sitting on a stool at a countertop, facing the window. On their approach, she decided she wanted no part of it, and just turned her chair 180 to face the cashier. She lacked the mental furniture to deal with the scene--but the cashier and other workers didn't. They waved and seemed to enjoy it.
The parade ended at the World Trade Center. I think this is everyone, minus maybe one or two. Official count I believe was 20. I would have made it legal, had I suited up! But then you wouldn't be seeing all these pictures. ;)
The reflection of clouds on the skyscraper behind is pretty neat. I wanted to show the suiters were really in the middle of a city, and not just in front of some corporate art. Also, the guy to the right, half off the frame, was amusing to watch. Yuppie, with Wall Street Journal, and coffee, and laptop. His initial reaction to the event unfolding before him was skeptical, but while others slinked away, he stayed and observed through the whole thing. He left when the last fursuiter left, with a smile on his face. I thought that was cool.
A crowd gathers for the photo op. At least half this crowd is from the general public. There are SO many pictures of the fursuits themselves, but very few pictures of the crowds they were attracting. I like this pic because it shows some cityscape, but I also managed to catch the 16th Street Mall street sign. The brown building on the left is the Adams Mark, and the strange lighting on it is coming from the reflection off the World Trade Center building.
Okay, sure, it's a fantastic portrait of Sinatra in front of the WTC sign. And the green trees offer a great contrast. But so do the mundanes behind the sign. They didn't move an inch during all the fursuit activity around that sign. And you can see by the woman's expression that she's still trying to figure out what happened. ;)
Possibly my best effort at light painting at the dance. Which isn't saying much--I wasn't happy with most of them (thanks to brainfart forgetting tripod). It's like a bad render in Second Life! Actually, the ghostly fursuit to the left of center is modeled after an SL avatar, evidenced from
this pic, where he's seen in SL typing mode. I've only been on SL once, but I've seen enough SL-style costumes to recognize the origin of this one is an SL model. Cute character!
The symbolism here speaks for itself.
Not my best of the canon shots, but what strikes me about this picture are two features. First, it's a RL version of something you might see in a piece of furry art involving a cannon -- particularly, a sexy black wolfess straddling the barrel, and another fur saluting. Second, the ratio of females to males is three to one! I don't think I've ever seen that impromptu before. :) It should be noted that all three ladies were in costume for the first time. Or so they said. The one in the black wolf costume has made several costumes, but this is her first time wearing one. The doctor didn't finish her costume in time, but wore it anyway -- I think the partial works great, actually. :) The tigress is a friend of the black wolf, and in her first stint in costume, she was in it for several hours. When we got back to the hotel, she was quite flush, and I was honestly a bit worried for her, but she was cogent and smartly grabbed some water, and recovered quickly. It won't be her last time in suit, I suspect. ;) (EDIT: oh, wait, I see a male wolf in the background now, in partial; okay okay, 3:2 then).
In a crowd that's milling about, trying not to notice nearly a dozen fursuits just behind me, this little girl is entranced with delight. After taking this picture, I thought to myself that what looks like a cute little girl finding wonder in our strangeness was actually a serious threat to anything wearing fur! Look at the mess she could cause to all that dry-clean-only stuff with the merest hug or kiss! I actually liked the vertical version of this picture better, but her expression in that shot was more dazed and bewildered than delighted.
