I used to hate Pinoy movies.

SO, SO MUCH. The plot formulas almost never changed since I was five:

1) poor girl + rich Mama's Boy + evil Mother + lenient Dad + girl's best friend + freakin' exaggerated drama + fast kisses + a fairy tale wedding

2) hopeless girl / boy + 5000000 "dimwit" moments + unattainable crush + "destiny" + happy ending

= BLECH!!! xp

Every single movie was syrupy and overused, unoriginal and basically just banking on their big-name celebrity actors for profit.

Then this radical new genre came along -- "indie".

Seriously? I used to think "indie" meant "from India". Sorry na! Then articles about spectacular Pinoy films started seeping in to our daily newspaper. I was like: "*O_o?* Seriously?" The gradual increase in the praise-worthy movies (monitored via the abundance of praising articles) sparked my curiosity.

For the first time in a long time, I felt like watching a Filipino movie.

But what? How? And when?

Leave it to AC to answer that.

What? "Idol: Pag-asa ng Bayan"
How? [Mandatory] film-watching.
When? July 27.

I won't even try to explain why I love it, but I'll take the liberty of describing it for you. "Idol" is

WOW

LOL

and WHOA

in that particular order.

Kudos to all the people behind that cinematic gem, and caps off to everyone who keeps "independent" films alive. Really, [insert "We're Not Worthy emoticon here].

pinoy, empowerment, indie, films
