Wow. What a train wreck that was. I remember it, though, as it was the last time rexy_jade participated in that community.
I wasn't trolling or playing devil's advocate. That was my belief, then. I may have expected too much from people and been a bit too outspoken. But, considering the penchant for oppressed minorities other than gays to be virtually ignored, I think there may have been some accuracy in the idea of LGBT's being shown some special treatment due to special interests -- atheism, etc.
In terms of it being a controversial and loaded issue, the faction which opposes gay marriage should probably share some of the blame. Its far from being a one sided affair.
Mostly, I just think that for every oppressed and downtrodden gay person there are probably 20-100 oppressed and downtrodden blacks, mexicans & other minorities. While LGBT's(lesbian, gays, bisexual, transexual) receive a ton of media coverage and public support, blacks, latinos and other demographics receive virtually nothing.
In that facet, I don't mind suggesting the gay marriage issue may be a bit clouded by ulterior motives and non-related political agendas. And, yes, I might even suggest having a topic that allows people to lash out against religion, churches and christianity in support of their atheistic ideals could represent such an ulterior motive.
Where I probably went wrong was, I actually thought people might be willing to look past their own self interests and whether or not they gain from opposing an issue. Then, I called them on it with all the grace and poise of a blunt object wielded by a caveman. I probably shouldn't have done that, or expected others to conform to my standards, unrealistic or otherwise. :D

I hope that answers your question.
