After reading about a few of my friends' Thanksgiving meals that turned into bad movie material. as the family got together and pushed buttons and annoyed each other, it made me realize just how thankful I was for my relaxed, sweet, uncomplicated Thanksgiving.
I've got my younger sister,
hugskitties19, here with me, and it's been great. She and
quillon get along great; we've laughed about just how much she and I are alike all week. And dinner was just extravagant enough without becoming ridiculous. I made Tofurky (just realized I've been spelling it wrong all this time) and salad,
quillon made lasagna (adapted from one of his mother's recipes, minus the meat), and
hugskitties19 cut the potatoes for mashed potatoes. We roasted some garlic and I cut up some muenster cheese, which I threw in while she mashed.
quillon bought a bottle of cabernet sauvignon, which went well with dinner.
Afterwards, we settled in the living room, and had a queer movie festival, since
hugskitties19 had never seen Priscilla, Relax, It's Just Sex, or Jefferey. At the two intermissions we had chocolate cheescake (which
quillon made), and chocolate creme de cassis ice cream (which I made). Both were good, although I think that the cheescake was better, personally. And it was his first attempt! You go boy.
It was all delicious, and the afternoon was quite peaceful, and I am very appreciative. I've never hosted anyone, family or otherwise, for Thanksgiving, and this has been so laid back. I'm grateful that I am in a position to do it this year, and to not be stressed out over doing it. This is a first for me.
So today, we are heading to Whole Foods, to get
hugskitties19 some protein shake, and then who knows what. Maybe Newport. Maybe we'll hang out here and get stuff done (I need to put the finishing touches on the novel, and she has some schoolwork to do). I don't know. She's still asleep, so we haven't thought that far yet.
