I just got an email inviting me to join Braking AIDS, a bike ride from Boston to NYC in September to benefit
Housing Works in NYC. I've considered doing something like this in the past, but never gotten around to training for it.
The bigger issue, though, is that by signing up, and paying my $95 registration fee, I'm making a commitment to raise $3500, and no less than $2000 has to actually be collected and paid to me (or, if it's paid by credit card, to my fundraising page) by then. If I don't, then I'm on the hook for it in September. I cannot possibly cover that myself. So, before I even entertain the possibility of undertaking such a thing, I need to know if it's even possible for me to raise that kind of money. I can imagine all kinds of mini-fundraising things I can do, on here, on Facebook, in various social circles, but I have no earthly idea, in trying to hit this target… well, how good my aim is. Maybe I can actually go way past $3500, and maybe I'd be lucky to hit $35. I don't know.
On this entry, I've screened all comments, so nobody else will see what you say, and you won't be influenced by what other people are saying. This is not an obligation or a pledge; I'm just trying to get an idea: would you be willing and able to contribute to me, if I decide to go for it? And if so, how much do you think you'd be able and willing to donate? Just a ballpark figure.
As a bonus… actually, if you'd like some sort of bonus for donating, or if you have some idea for a bonus I could offer (that won't cost me lots of money or time, or break any laws, but could be a way to thank people), you can leave that in the comments too. Again, it's all screened, from your lips to my ears. Metaphorically.
