Sean "The Puppy" Avery
Now, as many of you know, I am a huge hockey enthusiast who watches, reads about and discusses hockey all day as much as I can. I have and always will love the sport regardless of how "much" attention it DOESN'T get here in the States. Now, this whole Sean Avery situation makes me mad considering how valuable it is to the NHL and Hockey in an American market in general. Here we have Sean "The Pest, The Puppy" Avery made a slanderous comment before the upcoming Calgary vs. Dallas game Tuesday night. Ill paraphrase what he says... "It is really good to be back here in Calgary, I love Canada. I just wanna make it point that I think it is interesting how a lot of NHL players are dating my "sloppy seconds" and I don't know, I just think it's weird. Who knows, enjoy the game."
That was it. Sloppy Seconds might have just cost one of the most interesting players in the league his job. The fcat they suspended indefinitely annoys me to know end. For example, I remember back when I was about 12 years watching a Flyers and Penguins game where every Flyer player was going after and trying to fight Darius Kaspartisus because of his concussion inducing hit he put on Eric Lindros in a previous game that, in a lot of people's opinions, ruined the could have been dynasty career of the player. I remember my Dad telling me how that was one of the most popular ESPN 2 games they had ever aired. In a league that condones fighting and heavy hitting, I wonder why you wouldn't let one of the league's most colorful players jump out on the ice against two of Canada's most beloved players, Jarome Iginla, and Dion Phaneuf, and watching as both the fans of Calgary and the Flames themselves take Avery out all game. It would have been hockey gold, not to mention media and story-line gold.. This league needs a skilled player like Avery who not only is the league's "bad boy" but one whose off ice interests is women fashion and working for Vogue. Come fucking on, you talk about racism, sexism and players acting completely misogynistic as a common trait for "asshole hockey players" and what better than the guy who is the biggest asshole being fine considered a fashion forward person or a metrosexual. To me, this league is afraid of the wrong things, they need to be afraid of Penguins and Sidney Crosby not making it to the Cup final, they need to be afraid of Martin Brodeur or Nik Lindstrom retiring early. Sean Avery, you are awesome and play a mental game that no one can even compare to. In my opinion, let the asshole play.
