THIS IS Sean Harrigan of the Student worker's union! It is a sad treachery that student worker's like you are willing to be subjicated by Pratt's restrictive student worker wages and unwillingness to recognize you as a worker. You are the type of SCAB that gives a bad name to hard working Union members who ralley for student worker benefits and rights. The student workers of Pratt will rise up and loose the bonds of oppressive Administrations! We will be recognized as an integral part of the complex machine, no, BODY that is PRATT! Hey , This is Al Brennan, I work in the CGIM labs over in the ARC basement, and I just wanted to say to you Sean, that we do get paid for doing almost nothing. I realize it's not the same in every office, for example, kids in the Career services office do alot more actual "work" than CGIM workers. So, I'd rather not strike, get paid more, and then have to actually WORK, y'know what I mean? I get paid pretty well for working so comfortably. I know that one argument you guys use is that kids at NYU and SVA get paid $10 and hour, as opposed to our maximum of $6.50. But I know at other schools, there aren't even positions for work study open, and if there are, they are based on extreme need of financial aid. Some schools only have like, literally, 20 or 30 student worker positions available. We should feel lucky to have what we have, and not push it. Comfortably computing, Alex Brennan

These rants of yours just prove my point about the Union sucking. Go ahead and form your Union...I don't care. But don't get on my case for not joining--I don't agree with what this Union stands for. Sure, the Union workers get to vote on whether or not there will be a strike, but if the majority vote for the strike, then EVERYONE has to strike, even if you voted against it. I prefer to think for myself, thank you.
And, please, tell me, what are these rights and benefits that the student workers don't have? I pick my own hours, get time off when I ask for it, put print outs in the the proper print out baskets, and restart computers. That sounds pretty damn nice to me. I won't bite the hand that feeds me. But if I did see something wrong, I would do something. I'm a very active person when I see injustice, and in the case of work study, I don't see injustice--especially the kind of injustice that the Union wants us to see and is so bitter about.
It appears as if I would LOSE rights if I joined the Union, because I could then no longer decide things for myself when it comes to work. Union leaders would speak on my behalf. Unions are the Communist, 'totalitarian regimes.'
Also, federal work study money comes from the federal government. Sure, I wouldn't mind making 10 dollars an hour, but let's be realistic. I make the same amount at the EDS Lab that I made at McDonald's...and McDonald's was a helluva lot harder! The amount of workers we have on campus can't all make 10 dollars an hour. If we make 10 dollars an hour, it has to come from somewhere, which inevitably means cutting the amount of workers.
I have my reasons for not joining.
Oh, and uh, I'm not a child eater and would prefer to not eat the administration's children. Also, uh, MOVE TO FRANCE!
