To all Baytown Sun Staff:

As I was a driving home, I recieved a disturbing phone call, that the Baytown Sun has a picture of the new President Elect and his family on the front page with a sticker covering his face. My first words "Your kidding" rang out so fast. When I went home to find the paper sitting on the counter (purchased by my husband), sure enough there was a sticker covering the new President Barack Obama's face. I became more disturbed as another of my friends confirmed once again that she had gone to a store to purchase the Baytown Sun and the sticker was in the same spot-covering the President. As I looked over the page, it seems as though someone purposefully placed the sticker their. Those stickers are advertising a company very well established in the City of Baytown- that could have been advertised anywhere else on the page. Why place it there? Why now at this time- history in the making?

What is another sad observation is McCain's picture was CLEARLY visual and a wondefully focused- he looked great, very brave, and confident. I saw those exact things due to the picture being so CLEAR, while the picture of the President and his family were CLEARLY a BLUR, not focused. I also have another paper from the City of Houston and there is a very bold and clear picture of our President.

It saddens me, that whomever is responsible for this, intentionally did this to start a racial war. It saddens me to think that this someone is not on that level of those individuals who were apart of the electorial votes. They saw beyond his ethnic background and realized that we are going to chose this way because he may be best to run this country. Both candidates faught hard, but clearly the results say it all and we have to come together as a nation more than ever.

We received numerous calls on Tuesday regarding the location of the Ad Note on the front page of The Baytown Sun, as did the advertiser. While Ad Notes run two or three times a month on the Sun’s front page, unfortunately this time it covered the photo of President-elect Barack Obama.

The Ad Note was not placed on the photo to detract from Obama’s election, as some callers have suggested. The placement of the advertisement is always the same-the middle of the top part of the newspaper. This advertisement is placed on the paper by machine at our printers and we do not have a choice as to the location of the note.

We are taking steps to improve communication between our departments and the printer in order to be aware of issues such as these before we go to press.

Again, this is definitely a historic moment with the election of the first African-American in the history of the United States and we certainly had no intention of detracting from that moment.

politics, lol
