aussie

so since i've been living in fujimi, i hang out with a cool aussie chick (v) a lot...as we are the only 2 foreign ladies within a 25km radius or something. ANYWAY, i get a lot of grief about my american accent, and how i "mispronounce" words. especially the names of shoe brands. for example:

puma is supposed to sound like "pew ma"
skechers is supposed to sound like "skeechers" --> ee as in screech.

anyway, apparently anyone who hangs out with me for extended periods of time starts using the same lingo i do. for miss v, this means sounding more like an american in her pronunciation, something she is none too happy about. to make her feel better i have started using the various aussie-isms she drops, but this seems to fan the flames of her ire even more, as i can't seem to get a handle on the pronunciation.

picture it, japan 2010: frustrated aussie traps earnest american in roasting hot car and forces her to repeat the word "tosser" 20 times in a row before going to eat delicious ramen. :(

after endless iterations of this bs, i was called upon to perform for another aussie. the verdict? i sound like a snooty brit (emma thompson-esque) speaking aussie. D:

well, no worries. i reckon when i get back to the states i'll have a go at using my new accent and everyone will be like, "you're a shocka!" and i'll just be like "good on ya, ya tossa! fancy a cuppa and some bikkies?"

:D

japan, aussie
