So the final deadline for
bitter_nakano's summer exchange is TODAY. Crazy, right? Where did the summer go? And even though I'm so nervous I almost drank nail polish remover instead of coffee just now, I'm also full of warm, gooey feelings. By tonight, I will know whether we can start posting tomorrow

I...can't believe you put that up there T________T (tears of joy).
In the defense of a dark sasuke, belli and I talked the other night and most of our conversation was "Are we reading the same manga [naruto] as everyone else?" since a lot of portrayals tend to make him a bit more warm and squishy once he encounters Naruto again, and frankly we think there would be a lot of PTSD and anger between them. Choices will need to be made. A lot of the Sasuke Returns fic tends to deal with the village coming to terms with Sasuke and the council's retribution, with Naruto hung up on one thing or another, but I haven't seen many that tackle basically what they do when the memories of what they had are gone and when they realize they are adults. When the childhood romance aspect of the whole thing is used up. Because Sasuke is no more the misguided teen in need of a good roll in the hay, it's more like he's on this whole avenger schtick and it's not going to be pretty (bellicosus is of the opinion he needs the pimp's prayer to come to his senses).
When Naruto is crying in the snow at the feet of the Raikage and Sasuke is off wrecking havoc I pretty much lost all sympathy for the latter; it'll be interesting to see how Kishimoto has him earn his redemption. I do not know where this post is rambling to, but basically Bell and I agree with you about not really remembering the pairing and feeling that well of characterization for them has been dry for 100+ chapters. I'm off to Uchihaland (minus sasuke) and she is off to one piece after this.

Oh, I'm okay with Dark Sasuke, I'm just not particularly keen on reading fic about his darkness. Was Sasuke ever a misguided teen in need of a roll in the hay to "straighten him out"? In all my favorite fics, like At The End of All Things and Danica's ensemble cast fic, he was always portrayed as incredibly fucked up and fighting toward redemption. And I guess that's what I want to see, not the problem nor the solution, but the journey toward the solution. I think as twisted as Sasuke has become, the good kid he once was is still somewhere in there, and the day he wakes up to that realization is the day that he'll have to start fighting to get back to that place again. Or... something. Blah blah, journey - and you know, I'm even okay with not having Naruto actively there as part of the process, as I think this is something Sasuke needs to figure out for himself before he can face his teammates again. The village coming to terms with Sasuke, wtf is that? I mean, who cares? It's not about the damn village, it's about him and the handful of people who didn't give up on him.
I'm pretty sure whatever redemption attempt Kishimoto gives Sasuke won't satisfy me; we know Kishi's ability pretty well at this point, so... yeah. I don't really know why I'm still so invested in Sasuke, but I really want to write that fic about his journey to rediscovering himself or whatever. I've written one bit I kind of like. The fact that this bit is Itachi-centric may have something to do with it :|
Yeah, yeah, off to Uchihaland with you. You do have a deadline to meet, after all. /cough
