If you only knew

I walk through your life and I smile at you

I greet you with courteous words

I am helpful and friendly

I lift you up with encouragement, support when things go wrong

What would you do without me, you cry?

If you only knew

How much I’d like to tear off my mask

And scream in your face

And demand that you see

The real me

But  the mask remains

Smiling  and nodding

I carry on

And all my screaming is done
