So, being the movie freak I am, you guys probably know what I was doing last night. Watching AFI's Top 10 Movies of the Top 10 American Movie Genres. Let me tell you, I had so much fun watching that three hour long show! I was a little weary with all the commercials, tho, gotta say.
Animation
1. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," 1937.
2. "Pinocchio," 1940.
3. "Bambi," 1942.
4. "The Lion King," 1994.
5. "Fantasia," 1940.
6. "Toy Story," 1995.
7. "Beauty and the Beast," 1991.
8. "Shrek," 2001.
9. "Cinderella," 1950.
10. "Finding Nemo," 2003.
-- Most of these I love. Some of these I'm wondering how the heck they got on the list. I don't mean to hate on Shrek or anything, but SERIOUSLY. And Finding Nemo? I haven't seen that one yet, but wow. How can these beat The Little Mermaid, hmmmm?
Sidenote: I was watching this with my dad and so I enjoyed teasing him about his mad love for Beauty and the Beast. It's like his favorite movie, which is absolutely hilarious if you know my father. He's totally a manly man.
Fantasy
1. "The Wizard of Oz," 1939.
2. "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," 2001.
3. "It's a Wonderful Life," 1946.
4. "King Kong," 1933.
5. "Miracle on 34th Street, 1947.
6. "Field of Dreams," 1989.
7. "Harvey," 1950.
8. "Groundhog Day," 1993.
9. "The Thief of Bagdad," 1924.
10. "Big," 1988.
-- Some of these I haven't seen. I hadn't even heard of The Thief of Baghdad, but it is rather old. My stepmom kept saying that one of the HP movies was going to make it on the list and I was all, "Nah, never gonna happen." I am surprised, tho, that Lord of the Rings: Return of the King wasn't on the list - that was the one to win all the awards, not Fellowship of the Ring.
Gangster
1. "The Godfather," 1972.
2. "Goodfellas," 1990.
3. "The Godfather Part II," 1974.
4. "White Heat," 1949.
5. "Bonnie and Clyde," 1967.
6. "Scarface: The Shame of a Nation," 1932.
7. "Pulp Fiction," 1994.
8. "The Public Enemy," 1931.
9. "Little Caesar," 1930.
10. "Scarface," 1983.
-- Ha, I've only seen Bonnie and Clyde. The rest are on my Netflix queue, tho.
Science Fiction
1. "2001: A Space Odyssey," 1968.
2. "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope," 1977.
3. "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," 1982.
4. "A Clockwork Orange," 1971.
5. "The Day The Earth Stood Still," 1951.
6. "Blade Runner," 1982.
7. "Alien," 1979.
8. "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," 1991.
9. "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," 1956.
10. "Back to the Future," 1985.
-- Hmm, okay. How Star Wars didn't get first place is beyond me. Tho Empire Strikes Back was much better than A New Hope, IMO.
Western
1. "The Searchers," 1956.
2. "High Noon," 1952.
3. "Shane," 1953.
4. "Unforgiven," 1992.
5. "Red River," 1948.
6. "The Wild Bunch," 1969.
7. "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," 1969.
8. "McCabe & Mrs. Miller," 1971.
9. "Stagecoach," 1939.
10. "Cat Ballou," 1965.
-- My dad was pissed that Cat Ballou got on the list. He even had some *facepalm* action going on, LOL. But we both pumped our fists in the air at Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and quoted the scenes they showed. Then I kept saying, "I know they're gonna have Unforgiven on this list. God, I hate that movie." And then they showed the title and dad started laughing at me. Meanie.
Sports
1. "Raging Bull," 1980.
2. "Rocky," 1976.
3. "The Pride of the Yankees," 1942.
4. "Hoosiers," 1986.
5. "Bull Durham," 1988.
6. "The Hustler," 1961.
7. "Caddyshack," 1980.
8. "Breaking Away," 1979.
9. "National Velvet," 1944.
10. "Jerry Maguire," 1996.
-- Jerry Maguire, seriously? Isn't that more of a romance movie? I rejoiced at seeing Rocky... dad and I started singing the theme song and Ms. Beth shot us irritated looks.
Mystery
1. "Vertigo," 1958.
2. "Chinatown," 1974.
3. "Rear Window," 1954.
4. "Laura," 1944.
5. "The Third Man," 1949.
6. "The Maltese Falcon," 1941.
7. "North By Northwest," 1959.
8. "Blue Velvet," 1986.
9. "Dial M for Murder," 1954.
10. "The Usual Suspects," 1995.
-- Hell, yeah, The Usual Suspects. You rock that, Kevin Spacey.
Romantic Comedy
1. "City Lights," 1931.
2. "Annie Hall," 1977.
3. "It Happened One Night," 1934.
4. "Roman Holiday," 1953.
5. "The Philadelphia Story," 1940.
6. "When Harry Met Sally ...," 1989.
7. "Adam's Rib," 1949.
8. "Moonstruck," 1987.
9. "Harold and Maude," 1971.
10. "Sleepless in Seattle," 1993.
-- Dad and I both cringed when we saw Annie Hall. I only made it through the first fifteen minutes of that movie, and I hardly ever turn off films. Never even heard of City Lights. I don't know why they didn't make this category purely "Romance" - no romance list is complete unless Casablanca is on it, yes? At least, that's what my dad said. ;)
Courtroom Drama
1. "To Kill a Mockingbird," 1962.
2. "12 Angry Men," 1957.
3. "Kramer Vs. Kramer," 1979.
4. "The Verdict," 1982.
5. "A Few Good Men," 1992.
6. "Witness for the Prosecution," 1957.
7. "Anatomy of a Murder," 1959.
8. "In Cold Blood," 1967.
9. "A Cry in the Dark," 1988.
10. "Judgment at Nuremberg," 1961.
-- We totally predicted the first two on this list. I got overexcited when I guessed they were going to be doing this category and the first thing I shouted was, "Primal Fear! Edward Norton!" since I just saw that movie and it was FANTASTIC. I'll probably review it later. Was quite surprised to see A Few Good Men on this list - it was good, but not that good.
Epic
1. "Lawrence of Arabia," 1962.
2. "Ben-Hur," 1959.
3. "Schindler's List," 1993.
4. "Gone With the Wind," 1939.
5. "Spartacus," 1960.
6. "Titanic," 1997.
7. "All Quiet on the Western Front," 1930.
8. "Saving Private Ryan," 1998.
9. "Reds," 1981.
10. "The Ten Commandments," 1956.
-- Heck yes to most of these. Some I haven't seen, but they've been on my Netflix queue for awhile. LOL.
And now, for a meme that seems to be making its away across my flist.
You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.
Please copy my response below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-word answers seldom help anyone out. :)
1. First Name: Natalie
2. Age: 19. I'll be 20 in December and then proceed to have a mental breakdown.
3. Location: PG County, Maryland, good ol' USA.
4. Occupation: Kenette Dealer at Jaycees, CC Desk Worker at Towson University. It amazes me how I went from having no job to having two jobs so quickly.
5. Partner: None. It's funny, 'cause this question reminds me of a conversation I had with my stepmom the other day -
HER: *looking at me* Don't you have any other pants?
ME: *looking down at my too-big jeans* All my clothes are too small or too big.
HER: Why?
ME: Because I went to college and became a fat-ass and I don't have the money to go buy new clothes.
HER: Well, maybe when you do, you should go shopping. Because you look -
ME: Like a boy, I know.
HER: *smiling* Yeah, a little. Can't look like a boy if you want to get a boyfriend.
ME: Yeah, 'cause that's my number one goal in life.
HER: *shakes head*
Sometimes she reminds me so much of my mother, LOL. Anywho.
6. Kids: None, of course. But I've come to the conclusion that I'll be one of three people when I get older. I could be one of those women who is single and adopts, then finds ~true love~ when I'm in my sixties. I could get married and have one or two tykes, or I could get married and have a bunch of them. Lots of kids are kind of a trend in my family.
7. Brothers/Sisters: I have five. Two step-brothers, Justin and Gunther - 19 and 17. Two half-sisters, Ashley and Christie - 12 (almost 13!) and 11. And one half-brother, Charlie, who's 10.
8. Pets: Two dogs (Jack and Buddy), a turtle (Link), three fish (who are, sadly, nameless), a bird (Pecker)... and my brothers have three snakes, Miller, Gunny, Jr., and Samuel.
9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
- Summer Training with Agape. Lately God and I have been struggling a little, but that's my fault, of course, not His, and I'm trying to connect with Him again. That's the biggest thing going on.
- My job? I'm officially a dealer now, so that's a good thing.
- Preparing for my summer class, which starts July 7. Very, very happy about that.
- My fanfic, What's In a Kiss. Chapter 4 has been posted
HERE, btw.
- Just hanging with my family. :)
10. Where and for what did you go to school for?: I go to school at Towson University. This fall I'll be a Junior, which is mind blowing. I was explaining to Ashley the other day that getting older is so weird. When I was her age, I only had a few memories and they felt like they were from such a long time ago. Now all of my memories feel like they were just yesterday. I still feel like I'm 14 years old most of the time. Anyway, I'm majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, and minoring in Electronic Media & Film.
11. Parents: Mom, Dad, Ms. Beth. Love 'em all to death and I don't think I'd be the person I am today if I hadn't had all three of them with me.
12. Who are some of your closest friends?: Hmm, sometimes it's so hard to define who's a friend and who isn't, you know?
But I'd probably say that my closest friend from HS is Kris, who I haven't talked to lately. I miss her and all, but sometimes I think she doesn't want to be bothered by my phone calls. Jennifer is probably my closest friend at school, but she hasn't answered my calls either. Being pregnant = busy, I guess. I love all my other girls at college to death, tho - Monica, Madeline, Alex, and Emily. :) And Terry is also a very good friend, but she's probably closer to a mentor.
Okies, I'm done! :)
