Dawn and Maryland

Jul 20, 2010 22:03

I was up at dawn. Actually I was up all night and out at dawn to walk because the heat has been ridiculous, especially with the index nudging it up into triple digits. I went out to Bear Branch/Hashawha partly to get some exercise and partly to see if I could catch the Orieles by the water again. I did not expect what I found...

Everything was silvered by dew - great, huge droplets dripping from the trees and bushes, itty bitty, fine dustings of wetness on grass and brush. Everywhere I looked it, things were shining and glistening, almost as if coated with fairy dust.

I got soaked on my walk between the stuff dripping down on me and splashing on me and just coming off as I walked past the bushes. And the mist coming up from the lake added to the wetness, which seeing as it's been a dry few weeks is fascinating.

Yes I took a lot of photos trying to catch what I saw. And no, most of them as rather hazy because the digital did not capture it. Though the mists came out well and so did a few of the ones of the pine trees and grasses coated in dew drops. It was still a wonderful sight, one I haven't seen around here before. I've seen this kind of silvery coating on the grounds at dawn down in TN during the summer and had not realized just how much I missed it.

ramblings, dawn
