Okay. School has fits if the Kid is late. School has fits if any kid misses the big deal Maryland HSA's. (That's Maryland High School Assessment Exams for non-locals.) So, we the parents get all kinds of warnings about not letting the kids miss school for any reason if at all possible and not to let them be late.
So, why the heck do I get a call from the Kid at 7:20AM to say the freaking bus did not show up. This is the bus that is supposed to pick her up at 6:50AM and has been known to show up any time from 6:35 to 6:55AM! If I left work the moment she called, it would take me a minimum of 30minutes to get home, that's without any traffic delays! So I'd get home around 8am and she'd get to school around 8:15-8:20AM. Too late for the HSA's, because once they start at 8AM no tardy students can get in, they have to make up the tests.
We agree there's no point for me to leave early. She says she'll try calling for a ride. By time I get home at 9AM I'm resigned to getting a nasty lecture from truancy officer and school admin. But the Kid is not home... so, I'm not sure what happened 'cause I know she had not gotten ride from any of friends she called since they were not available or busy.
Turns out she went back outside and rejoined crowd of teens waiting for bus. It came at 7:55AM and they got to school... 8:20AM.
So, she has a day of wasted time today - all of her classmates are in the HSA's. And next week she misses a day to do make up exams. Two days wasted because... the bus driver overslept and there were no other buses that could pick up the kids and take them to the high school. This means even more make up work and catch up work to do this week and during weekend.
::sighs::
Yes, I'm frustrated with the system.
