A dialogue from work today.
So my boss was introducing me to someone I had spoken to over the phone, but hadn't met in person. The following ensued:
BOSS: And this is Chris.
CHRIS: Hi... I think we spoke earlier, actually--you totally saved the day by taking on the So-and-So Service?
CELEBRANT: Oh, of course!
CHRIS: Thank you so much for that, by the way...
CELEBRANT: It was my pleasure!
CHRIS: Ah, well, bless your buttons.
CELEBRANT: I'm sorry, what?
BOSS: "Bless your buttons." It's his little... thing.
CELEBRANT: "Bless your buttons?" Is it okay if I work that into a memorial service? "Thank you all for coming, and bless your buttons."
I think the most disappointing part of this whole interaction is that, now, I have a "little thing."
