My foreman approached me at work today with some very serious news. It's the end of the year and I still have vacation time left.
"Do you know what we do with employees who have vacation time left at the end of the year?" he asks. I responded in the negative. "Neither do I", he said , "it just doesn't happen. You better schedule the rest of your time for this month right now, or who knows what could come about."
As tempted as I was to explore this uncharted territory, my inner scientist was overcome by the superstitious fear and awe that my foreman inspired, in much the same way a religious zealot may quell the curiosity of those around them by explaining in ghastly detail the obscure and horrible fate that questioning the will of their god may bring. With great haste, I arbitrarily pointed out days on the calendar. They just sort of happened to get me four long weekends in a row after taking Christmas and New Years into account.
Being a smart-aleck shouldn't be this natural.
