Welp, I'm back from FantaSciCon.
The Good: Overall, it was a lot of fun. The games that happened were great. I really enjoyed running my one game and playing in a couple others. We even got to break out the new pirate boardgame I bought (and yes it's a booty load of fun).
The people, as usual, were also fun and, mostly, drunk. I drank very little, but that was due to one of the negative notes of the weekend. I got to see a lot of people I haven't seen in a while and enjoyed the company of old and current friends.
The Bad: Well, it was only three things really...
1. Attendance was waaaay down. We had almost, but not quite, half the normal crowd. This was mostly due to...
2. The hotel. Now, there was nothing particularly wrong with the hotel, like rude staff or bad rooms. The problem was there was no handicap access (only stairs) and everything was sort of spread out too far. There was also a space issue if there'd been anymore people.
3. The lack of attendance and new hotel meant a great lack of any decent room parties. There was one and it was extremely lame (consisted of two people from the sponsors, another con, sitting and talking in front of a TV with a few decorations and no refreshments, adult or otherwise). Combined with the lack of people and you had a con known for its nightlife with no nightlife.
There usual minor complaints of certain staff being rude were mostly nil, aside from the bartender who didn't know what the hell she was doing and wouldn't mix a drink how you instructed her to.
So, yeah, a pretty good weekend. I've already been told I have to be at HallowCon in October, which I might be able to swing as long as I have a job (especially since it looks like no Dragon*Con for me due to a lack of funds for staying on site). So, we'll see how it goes. For now, I'm gonna rest...
