LJ in financial trouble?

Jan 06, 2009 07:55

A friend this morning called my attention to this Gawker news article: The Russian Bear Slashes a Social Network:
LiveJournal, the San Francisco-based arm of Sup, a Russian Internet startup, has cut about 20 12 of 28 employees - and offered them no severance
The company's product managers and engineers were laid off, leaving only a handful of finance and operations workers - which speaks to a website to be left on life support.

The Gawker article links to this LJ post by the fiancé of one of the laid-off LJ workers.
Since I just sprung for a Permanent Account during last month's sale, I'm quite displeased by this news. If anyone reading this has thoughts about how to archive a very active local LJ community, or how to migrate it to another service, I'm all ears. Someone pointed me at this Mac utility, but I haven't tried it yet.
