In three weeks the face of the E.U will change when Ireland has a (second) vote to ratify the Lisbon treaty. A "No" vote should be the correct one for the following reasons - Security. Ireland would become a glorified aircraft carrier. The Arab world has good relations with Ireland and the drift to a foreign policy that can be termed Islamophobic will be of no assistance to Ireland.
Presidency - a sinecure for Tony Blair. There are much better things to do with a million pounds.
Law - the harmonization of law is a fine concept. If Ireland harmonizes with the Netherlands and Denmark, well and good. However the idea of Ireland harmonizing with U.K, Greece or Slovakia fills any cogent thinker with foreboding.
Finally, the wildly unpopular Fianna Fail coalition government will find itself on a losing ticket as voters equate F.F corruption with Lisbon. File this under "Getting Even".
On another topic I pondered America this morning. The United States gave the world plastic tits, the KKK, Agent Orange and daisy cutters. But also Thoreau, Gershwin, Martin Luther King and Mark Twain. It evens up.
