The BBC had some dire programme on the upcoming election "Generation Z and voting", they misprounced it as Zee (US accent). Zee is taking over from Zed in Irish schools also. In a few decades will it be Zee?
Look at films, pre 1945 Los Angeles was pronounced in the Spanish way. After WW2 Easterners with no knowledge or inclination to use the original Spanish opted for what we now have.
