Strasbourg, the ECHR, what is it good for?
A big news day. Firstly, Suella Braverman now wants the UK to quit the ECHR. A few years ago I'd have been apoplectic. I was involved in a case, the ECHR are merely a rich man's talking shop. Basically, everything carries on as before, Rwanda, migration, DNA, all smoke and mirrors. Albania and Bosnia dictating human rights is farcical. Strasbourg has had its day.
Now to more British legal news - Northern Ireland, is bringing in anonymity of suspects pre charging. Which means Scotand will adopt it tomorrow. Oddly enough the imbalance would have led to another ECHR defeat for the UK, anonymity for one side or neither. Go back and look at the R v Olding and Jackson case. Or any other false rape allegation.
My work is almost done. Proven false rape claims to attract a minimum ten year custodial tariff is all that remains.
