For sometime now I have been thinking of setting up a day within my budding religious calendar a date to honour the last great battle between the Nephites and Lamanites.
To my knowledge there is no date, as the record, BoM, doesn't tell us when and I haven't found anything in my research travels, but the thought of marking a time of mourning for the Nephites and Lamanites, i felt would be important. Now mourning for the Lamanites? Yes, you read correctly. The Nephites and Lamanites both played roles with in a cycle starting with the Jaredites and their enemies. Now i don't think of the Lamanites as the 'bad guy' but i mean they were waring neighbors for the Nephites, they were two cultures that were at odds with one another-different cultures due to their differences warred with one another-
However, since i see these two groups as beings that were tied to nature, i don't see them as enemies. But the point is that I was seeking a date to honour the death of the Nephites, which would mark the end of the Lamanites as well-since i don't see the Lamanites as being ancestors to the Native Americans, I see the Nephites and Lamanites as a tribe among tribes, or even The Forgotten Tribes.
So I searched for the date. Since I couldn't find one-i decided to look at the text and get inspiration from there. So, I when to the Book of Mormon, to the chapter that bares the same name as the book-Book of Mormon, to the sixth chapter, and the six verse. And then it came to me, 06/06-June 6th would be a day of mourning, or The Weeping of Cumorah, and this day would be the remembrance for the Forgotten Tribes, family that wared against one another-
So there you have it-June 6th is "The Weeping of Cumorah" festival in remembrance of the death and destruction of the Nephites and the end of the Lamanites, as I see it. Since one house fought another, House against House, (House of Lehi breaks down into House of Nephi & House of Laman) devided they both fell- To what i believe lead to the death of the Lamanites and the silencing of them as well since no other knew of this Tribe until the Book of Mormon.
What would this festival look like? Perhaps the darkening of altars, with a single candle lit for those whom died that day upon Cumorah- I haven't worked out the details of the festival and what it would look like but i suppose it's a start-
