Deerhoof - The Runners Four is quite possibly one of the most nutty collections of rock music I've ever had. I am glad that Pitchfork counted it as the 6th best album of the year, considering I had never heard of most of their top 50.
it's not flawless, in fact a lot of the songs are hard to enjoy but the more proper compositions are so catchy and utterly oddball that I wish it weren't true that even their more focused songs are still too weird for radio or television. i think anyone who likes loud guitars and has an appreciation for spontaneity and whimsy would like them, but everyone seems to be much more interested in how offensive my poster of them is.
i went to the frederick library today and got a biography of hunter s thompson and a collection of his espn.com columns.
