I noticed when Dad visited that he uses many superlatives in talking of literature (he said: kurt vonnegut is the best american living writer (he's alive still right?)), so I think I'm at a place where I can make such claims about music. Going on the momentum of that last post:
Pavement was the best American band of the 1990s.
I could also make the claim:
Radiohead was the best British band of the 1990s.
Though that's a less profound claim because they are still going strong as a band, whereas Pavement's history basically spanned the whole decade, since they started a little bit before it began and ended right before it ended (the decade).
Rachel would probably agree with both of these? Nick would probably agree with the second, at least.
You can correct me, you two.
Other people: what are your thoughts?
I recognize superlatives are a big problem and they really shouldn't be made, but, they are so fun to make!
