I noticed that it was band day midway through the first period when I saw a camera shot with a strange band uniform, so I thought I'd clarify:
Band day is an embarassment to me, to the Washington band, and to the washington athletic program.
1. Espn showed a shot of the band at half time. Standing there. Surrounded by high schoolers. Who wants to waste extra coverage of a band not marching?
2. Apparantly the UW band isn't good enough to recruit based on its reputation, they need to have high school bands perform with them.
3. When those white chairs are vacant at the end of the game? embarassing.
4. For every kid in high school who loves football/uw football, how many are there that don't give a shit? In a big game atmosphere... embarassing.
5. In high school I would've killed to perform with the OSU marching band, but if they had me out on the field to stand there I would've felt like they thought I was a stupid kid and hated them for it.
6. There are so many ohio state fans at this game, and if ANYONE comes back to me next time I'm in columbus and asks about band day, what am I supposed to say? Remember when we went to OSU and saw the marching band there? or when we went to Notre Dame and saw their band? How can this half time show represent our school well?
7. If you've got to have band day, do it against a shitty opponent. If your schedule is like washington's this year, do it against arizona or stanford or asu, or boise state, i don't give a fuck that its the first weekend after band camp.
Band day pissed me off as a member of husky band, and it embarasses me as a fan of Husky Football.
