Random headcanon mishmash wordsalad stuff about Jay that's floating around in my head because I like words and overthinking stuff.
Jay never got to finish high school. Sam and Paige both left home when he was younger, and he took it upon himself to help raise his siblings and be the man of the house, so he prioritized working over schoolwork. He canonly used to work in the coal mines back home!! Which doesn't really leave a lot of time for school, obviously. He was taking classes at Xavier's of course, but whoops that didn't exactly pan out to diplomaland due to uh, dying.
When he's older, Jay would still like to pursue a musical career. He was in a band back home and really enjoyed it!! He mentions in the comics how he used to dream about leaving Cumberland with his guitar and being the next Elvis. In the House of M reality he's even a famous musician, cry. But yes he brought his guitar to school and played it regularly. Music is something that has always made sense to him, and he genuinely loves just being able to chill somewhere with his guitar. He would really like to go solo, too. Partly because it wouldn't be the same to have a new band, and partly because he still has his dream of making it on his own.
Like Sam and unlike Paige, Jay's never felt the need to try and hide his accent. He doesn't mind people knowing where he's from, and while he doesn't sound like some backwater Cletus, it's definitely easy to tell he's from the country.
He has no problems with personal space. That's not to say he creeps on people or anything like that. Growing up with nine brothers and sisters in a small house means that you don't get a lot of alone time or personal space anyway. So, he can be physically close to people without it bothering him. The first time he even had a bedroom to himself was after Sammy died when he came to Xavier's. Living with the other babymutants is a bit hectic, but something he's gotten used to already.
Will add to this when I am too much in my own head again. I have a whole bunch of Camp related feelings stuff rolling around too but that will wait til Jay's been here longer weh weh.
