2010 IN REVIEW: DUBSTEP AND DOUJINSHI

Jan 04, 2011 10:34

Even though the year is already over, have an end of the year meme! It's too long to re-read through, so forgive me any grammatical or spelling errors I may make. Stolen from vixenofargentum

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Not much, really! My life is so very, very uneventful, after all. But I suppose I could say that it was the first year I lived completely on my own. I moved into the apartment in 2009, but pretty late into the year. 2010 was my first fully independent year. Also, 2010 was the year where I started parting my hair on the left instead of the right! I know that's probably the most uninteresting achievement in the world, but I have a cowlick on the right side and YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW HOW HAPPY IT MADE ME TO DISCOVER I HAD HAIR THAT DID WHAT I WANT (sometimes). Also my first very official designated DATE. Not that I haven't done things that would be considered dates before, but this one was the put-on-nice-clothes-eat-at-a-fancy-restaurant-with-a-guy-you-don't-know-that-well kind. It was really awkward and I hated it, lol.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I was better about it in the first half of the year, tbh. All I remember from my resolutions was "draw more" and "go to the gym", and I started off strong! But then I probably got a new game or something, and then I started working more nights so I never get to work out... so yeah. Both are on my list again this year. In fact, the list is here, and it is very large and colorful.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No one close to me. Kit's brother's girlfriend had twins, which is pretty remarkable, since she was told she probably wouldn't be able to have any more children.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thank god.

5. What countries did you visit?
I didn't get out of New England, let alone America! I think the furthest from home I went this year was Massachusetts. That's really sad. Maybe I should make a resolution to travel this year.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A better job? Artistic talent? A life plan? I mean I have zero skills, and working retail for the rest of my life doesn't seem so appealing.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I suppose I don't have one, really...

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Haha, idk! Moving my hair part. jkjkjkjkjk. Kind of.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't really think I failed at anything, much the same way that I didn't really succeed in anything, so I guess you could say my biggest failure was just not doing anything. I'm such an unmotivated layabout. I need to go to some classes or find a hobby that can't be done in my bedroom.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I'm always pretty healthy. I did get sick twice this year (like, vomiting all night delerious and sweaty), which is pretty notable. One was just last week. I think it was food poisoning, but ehhhhh. Also I have this mysterious thing going on with my ear. I was sure it was just an ear infection, since it's the same sort of random piercing pain, but when I finally got to the clinic (I don't have a doctor, derp) I was told everything was fine. But it still hurts randomly. So huh.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Ass tons of doujinshi, heheh. It's pretty sad that my favorite purchases of the year are basically little boy dicksFOREIGN CARTOON PORN, but there's something about the filthy little things that makes me so excited. AHH I mean giggly excited, not sexually excited.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Hmm, maybe my roomie Pup? He moved in with us in October and has had to put up with not only just us, but all of our crap and our habits and our my weird idiosyncrasies. Like if you touch any of my things in the fridge or shower I will KNOW and I will file it away in my mind to possibly forgive you at a later date and you will never know any of this but trust me, it's happening.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No one appalled me, but I guess my sister Pam could count for depressed. She's been unemployed since... Summer 2008, I think? Her unemployment money from the state has run out. She still isn't really looking for jobs, even after at one point I basically pointed her to one she was certain to get, within walking distance from her apartment. Speaking of which, she lost her beautiful apartment and had to live in a smelly funky little one, then lost that and now has to live with her boyfriend in his. It's such a waste, because she's incredibly smart, and used to be so driven, and she has a remarkably extensive social network, and she's so pretty and used to put so much pride and effort into her style, but now she looks like a crazy bag lady. I wish she would wake up and realize that she can't just keep drinking and smoking and watching Burn Notice reruns with her cats. Ahh, tl;dr, tl;dr, sorry!

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, food, bills. The usual. Doujinshi.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Uhh, I mentioned my hair... Oh! 2010 is the year I discovered Inazuma Eleven. And yeah, it made me exceptionally happy. And on top of me just loving the show (and turning into a creepy old lady fujoshi shotacon even though I'm really not IT'S COMPLICATED OKAY), it has introduced me to so many of you lovely people! And that's even better.

Oh yeah SMT: Strange Journey came out in 2010, too. Such a good game.

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Any number of crappy radio fodder club anthems. You know, Rihanna and Pitbull and all that jazz. OH and Telephone by Lady Gaga. I think if I had to pick my song of the year, it would be Telephone. I love Telephone.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder - Probably the same? Maybe a touch happier?
Older or wiser - I hope that it's wiser, but it's probably older.
Thinner or fatter - I haven't changed weight since I was fifteen.
Richer or poorer? - Not that I have much anyway, but I'd say richer, since I've gotten something like two raises and an hour increase.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Anything that doesn't involve me sitting in bed for long periods of time. Making friends. Hanging out with them. (Pup and Kit don't count.)

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating, doing nothing.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Since it already happened (late meme is late), I spent Christmas Eve and morning with my Dad and family at his house, and then the rest of Christmas Day with my mom and company at my apartment.

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
Nope. I sometimes wonder if I'm completely incapable of romantic feeling.

22. How many one-night stands?
I'm even more incapable of being anything slutty! (Except for a cocktease; apparently I'm a cocktease. Who knew?)

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Excluding all my HURR DURR ANIME (Shota Sports Magic: The Animation, Girl Who Loves Jellyfish Too Much, and Sluts and Swearing), Project Runway. Even if this season was complete crap aside from Andy and Mondo, I still love Project Runway. Tim Gunn, will you be in my life? I will be your loving doll. Please dress me fabulously.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not that I can think of.

25. What was the best book you read?
I'm really atrocious and hardly ever read any more, so the only real WORD book I read was American on Purpose by Craig Ferguson. I did really enjoy it. If you count manga, though, I would say without a doubt that Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue is the greatest thing I've read all year. I absolutely love everything about it. And not to mention Takehiko Inoue has the most incredibly gorgeous art ever. It's breathtaking. You should read it. Everyone should read it.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Dubstep. And this.

27. What did you want and get?
Everything keeps coming back to doujinshi! Ahhhhhhh! And a new phone! Have I ever mentioned it before? It's a Droid HTC Incredible and I named it Desarm because I am so hideously uncool.

28. What did you want and not get?
Riches? Fame? Idk, ahah...

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Kick-Ass. I really really loved that movie. SUCH a good soundtrack, too. Toy Story 3 was good, too. I cried so hard in that stupid theatre...

30. What was your least favorite film of this year?
I don't actually watch a lot of movies, so I don't usually see many bad ones since I'm so selective.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 23, and I worked, haha. But then I came home and my roomies had made me a (hideously large) Claptrap cake, and it was all very cute. I posted a picture of it back somewhere.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More friends ._.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
BOOTS and THINGS YOU CAN WEAR WITH BOOTS. Nah. Well yeah, but that's not all. Every year, the last one being no exception, I wear whatever I want. Whatever I feel like. I like when fashion displays someone's personality, so I love clothes. Clothes not everyone could or would want to wear. Corny as it sounds THE BEST ACCESSORY IS CONFIDENCE.

34. What kept you sane?
Work, oddly enough.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The obligatory woman of the year, Lady Gaga. I love her music, I love her style, I love her motivation and her dedication and her love. I was at her Prime Rib of America speech, and I love her passion. Also Pam told me I look kind of like her once (blond Italian with a strong nose) and I was like lol no but then I was really happy anyway.

36. What political issue stirred you the most
I'm the least political person ever conceived, I kid you not. But I suppose you could say DADT. As the least political person ever conceived, I never really knew much in-depth about it, and so had no problems with it. I thought it was literally no one asking, no one telling, and we're all peachy. But after hearing more of all the unfairness and ways it was being used against people, well, of course my mind changed.

37. Who did you miss?
As corny as it sounds I always sort of miss my mom. Not like miss her; I'm not the sort of person who easily misses anyone and I see her often enough besides, but I always would like to hang out with her more. I love my mom; she's my best bro.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
All of my new internet friends! I love you all!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
Do your best, and just be happy.
