I absolutely agree with what you're saying here. Fandom is so much about community and groups of individuals setting examples and everyone learning and growing from that. I'm with you in believing that that's an integral part of fandom, I really think that the community of it should be the #1 appeal. I mean it's.... Fandom is a lot of things. Fandom is me meeting you, my best friend and soulmate. Fandom is me being inspired to write in ways that I've never before experienced. Fandom is me finding a group of people, with whom I have a lot of things in common, and growing closer to these people and making friends.

I think that reality is lost on everyone whose primary source for fandom is tumblr or twitter, and I think that's really sad. In communities, you learn how to respect people, you learn how to act, you learn how to be your best possible self. You can't learn that on twitter and tumblr, you just can't, and it causes too many problems.

But for less negativity, YES EXACTLY. As much as I've been talking to you today about how awful everybody is, I'm so sincerely excited to be in the company that I'm in with this fandom? I mean I've spent all day fangirling all over this post and the people who've chosen to engage me in discussion, even though there are only three of you. But the three of you are SUCH fantastic and phenomenal people, people I want to talk to all day every day about One Direction and life in general. In an ocean of suck, just like you said, there's this raft of royalty, and I do think there's something fabulous to be said about the fact that it's relatively small enough that everyone on it can get to know each other and grow and have fun really productively.
