Office Hours

Jenny. Office hours. It traditionally meant coffee, a laptop, and research. This time, it also meant 80's rock music blasting, possibly at a volume that was a little too high. The door was closed, but not locked, and if you knew Jenny at all, you knew that you could open it right up and walk in.

Which Susan did. "Happy Friday, Jenny."

"Su!" exclaimed Jenny, rather loudly. She grinned and clicked her mouse a few times, turning the music down. "How're things?"

"Not bad. Rather quiet this week. I expect next week will be more interesting, with various preparations for Homecoming." Susan sat down in the visitor's chair, and smiled as Jenny turned down the music. "Do you know, I'm just beginning to recognize the songs they play? And it's only taken ten months."

"No one's taken the time to educate you on rock music?" asked Jenny. "Seriously? This lack in your education? We've so gotta remedy it."

"Lorelai was trying for while before the baby came, but then she had other things to do, obviously." Susan shrugged slightly, still smiling, then asked, "And how has your week been?" The question did you find out anything? was sternly suppressed, despite how much she wanted to ask it.

"Oh, you know, a little of this, a little of that," said Jenny. "Lots of stuff to do for class prep."

Susan smiled, and tilted her head. "Any of them showing promise? Aside from Willow, I assume."

"Willow?" Jenny frowned. "Oh, she's not in my class. Some of them are a bit goofy, but really, they're great kids."

"Good to know." Hesitantly, because she had to ask, "Did you find out anything? In your computer research?"

"Oooh, yeah," said Jenny, sitting up abruptly. She reached for a disk and slipped it into her laptop. "Lemme load this one up."

Susan twisted her fingers together nervously. "How did you find this information? Do you still have the rings safe?"

"Relax, I've got them in a warded box," said Jenny, opening up the files on the CD. "And locked up in my desk. It's been kind of hard to track info on them, but I've got some stuff for you. Your Uncle Diggory's stuff? Well, it all went to you. Did you even know that, Su?"

"No," Susan said, sitting back, and thinking. "Although I shouldn't be surprised. He had no family of his own, after all. And he was old even when we first met him-- he must have been almost sixty when he died. What happened to it?"

"Well, you weren't in such good shape around then," said Jenny, her voice sympathetic. "Your aunt and uncle put it in storage. Maybe they were going to tell you about it, but they forgot? Anyway, I grabbed a list of what effects were there from--" She paused. "Well, I had a source, let's just say?"

Susan smothered a smile, and said, "Your source, yes. And -- well. I can see them putting it aside, and simply refusing to deal with it. That wouldn't be unlike them either."

"Family," said Jenny, knowingly. "I'm sure they meant well. Thing is? The storage room was sold off when they died."
