Yes, poor Clark, I hurt him bad in this one. And if I followed true to the DC formula, he would end up fully restored somehow - magic elixir, Diana's purple ray, alien tech, clone transfer or clone for parts, something. In the fuzzy future of this one, that might happen. And Bruce would freak out, all while pushing for it, because then Clark wouldn't *need* him anymore. There's always angst to be had. *g*
As for what fueled this particular one (and I know that you're speaking in more general terms but I'll be specific *g*), the husband's an amputee. Here he was athletic, a pilot, reasonably young, and then bam, no going back. The pride, the denial, the stubborness, the devastation, wow. Personality-wise he's certainly not Clark, so I did change a few things. Okay, a lot of things. But the idea popped into my head because we live with this every day.
I know that I haven't been churning out the happy ones lately, but I do cycle so they'll be there again. Funny, this one did have them getting together so I didn't consider it an unhappy ending. *g*
