Fic In Translation: "I Will If You Try", the Bruce-Speak Version.

One of the things that I do when I'm writing a fic is try to pay attention to the undercurrents, the parallel conversation in the dialogue of the person whose POV I'm not writing. Thank you. No, the cliff notes definitely flatten it. I like it much better without them too.

I'm also starting to wonder why you still tag these stories as sv/dcu.

I'm lazy and it's a catch-all. True! I created the tag when I posted my first Smallville fic which was an SV/DCU meld, future fic, and then just kept using it. Which is probably annoying for anyone that wants to sort through the DCU and Smallville fics. *sheepish* I should probably do one of those 2010 fic sorter posts.

As for my Clark, he varies. I'll have to admit that some of the purely DCU fics do have a kiss of Welling to the Clark (but not always). You can usually tell by the diction. For instance, I use a much more modern vernacular, less cornpone, than the writers who portray him closer to pure DCU. My Clark will never say "Great Rao!" even though he does *all* the time in canon. I just can't write that with a straight face. Plus my Clark has a touch more sensuality than in strict canon, and that's due to my coming into this fandom from the Smallville side of the street.
