Horatio doesn't know what he wants, or only wants what he can't have. I think, of all his women, Marie knows him best, Maria loves him best and Barbara is who he thinks he should have. He cheats on all of them - though Marie is the only one by circumstance (what with being married when he's with her - though never *with* his wife, except in that one scene, and he's cheating on her big-time mentally there).

I love Marie, and I love her thing with Horatio, because she knows Horatio, both the good and the bad. I just wish he didn't have to betray Maria to be with Marie. I'd be fine with him betraying Barbara though, because I'm mean. Hee.

It's a lovely fic, and it makes me a little weepy.

Marie understands Horatio in ways that neither Maria and Barbara do, and she knows going in what she's asking for. I have some measure of sympathy for both Maria - you know she doesn't believe or even think that Horatio cheats on her (except after Barbara, where I fully believe she had some idea of what was going on, because Maria is NOT stupid) - and Marie - who knows him and understands him and can't seem to help loving him anyway.

Man. These 3 women and HH are just the best damn dynamic. I love how you have HH at Maria's tombstone and remembering Marie. And what he's left with is Barbara.

Who has Maria's son named after her BROTHERS. *hates*

They really are too much fun to write - so twisted and convoluted, each of them owning a different part of him. And he has no clue. Really. For being a smart cookie, he's a bit dense about such things.

I have this idea for a fic where Richard Arthur asks Horatio about his real mother. Should be fun if I can get it to work...though I should probably be talked out of calling it "A Problem Like Maria". Hee.
