Graduate School

Some of you are aware that I have now decided to go on to graduate school. I found that I really like doing research during my internship this summer at Brookhaven National Lab. I will be staying with the same group I have been in throughout the summer this fall for credit and for pay. I still intend to do my student teaching. It is important for me to finish something that I started and to have a fallback in case it becomes necessary. But, student teaching is full of lesson planning and a host of other life consuming activities. Therefore, in order to sanely do what I need to in applying for grad school, I am pushing off the student teaching to the spring.

Since this decision was only made in the last few weeks, I need to start thinking about the general and chemistry GRE very soon. I also have to start looking at grad schools, their departments, and professors with interesting research. Having external sources of funding could be useful, so I will need to hunt these down. I have a special interest in minority funding opportunities. Any advice and pointers that you have on any of these things or on the process in general is welcome.
