Movies I sort of remember watching from December:
The Caine Mutiny - Spoiler: there is a mutiny aboard the USS Caine. There is a boring sub-plot with a boring ensign dating a girl who is way too good for him. The mutiny happens and they put that guy on trial. The end with
Jose Ferrer showing up makes it all worth it. He's the lawyer. I wasn't too enamored with it but it's a good movie and worth seeing.
Mister Roberts - What's this, a theme? Classic Navy films? I wonder why. This was an enjoyable (despite John Ford directing), light comedy about a supply ship in the Pacific during wartime. William Powell's last movie. James Cagney sort of had nothing to do.
Cape Fear - The remake. Made me want to rush off and see the original. Great darn movie.
Christmas in July - Preston Sturges comedy about a guy who thinks he wins 25k in a contest. Preston Sturges usually has a great comedic touch, and his movies usually hold up, but this was not great. A lot of it is Dick Powell is dull as dirt. Al Bridge is in this movie. I have no idea where I know him from. Usual faces from other Sturges movies show up and save it a little, like William Demarest and Franklin Pangborn.
