Writing

I love reading good writing.

The true masterpieces of literature written almost as a recording, rather than an invention. As if the author knows, somewhere buried deep inside, the entire story and is remembering it, word by word, as he types away on his keyboard. And as if you, the readers, are remembering the story too while you read the words, one by one.

Stephen King started writing The Dark Tower while he was still in college, and his entire career has the story weaving through it. It captures the author's grand scheme, his footprint in history. It's an epic that has been in progress for thirty years, and will be remembered as one of the masterpieces of literature. There is a series, a main story arc that has taken thirty years to write, namely, the seven Dark Tower books. However, 16 other books by King weave in and out of this story, resulting in a mindboggling work, with unforgettable characters and stories.

I'm a couple of books into it, and the feeling that there is this universe out there for me to discover, this story, makes me excited. I'm looking forward to finishing the last book, and smiling a big smile. I'm probably the only person you know that gets excited about reading books, but hey, I'm Roman. Get used to it.

Stephen King was writing about this whole thing, and was talking about how when he was young, he read Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series. However, he waited before writing his magnum opus, because if he started writing it then, he would be telling Tolkien's story, and not his own.

Which is kind of how I feel about King's work right now. It'll probably take me a couple years to fully get the story finished, but someday I'll write something of my own. I'll tell my own story, I'll get inside my audience's heads and ravish them, change their lives, make them see something about themselves they haven't seen before. All with some words on a page, 26 letters combined into a pattern, an entire universe, my mind, seen through black symbols on a white page.

It will be the future of gaming.

People will bow to it.

Great idea?

Thats the only kind I have.
