You may wonder why we take word counts seriously here at Romancing the Wizard. The reason is that this is a writing challenge with specific requirements. When I perform a word count for challenges at RTW, I usually copy the story text into a new document and delete all html tags, space dividers, ellipses, and em dashes before counting. That way, everything that might throw off the word count is out of the equation.

If you're still having trouble with your word count after you've highlighted everything, you might want to try the above method.

What about printing out the text and doing it by hand? That's as save as it can be.

I mean use the highlighter on your Word software.
