He hadn’t felt such a powerful surge of emotion in years - a searing, white-hot jealousy that burned in his chest, stealing his breath, paining him far more than the scar on his neck.
She had been covering Transfiguration classes while Minerva was on medical leave; living at the castle during the week, sitting beside him at meals, smiling at him in staff meetings. She’d matured into a lovely woman and he was flattered by her obvious attentions.
Now, in his new dress robes, watching her dance in her oafish husband’s arms, he realized he was nothing but a lonely fool.
