For some reason I think the idea that River was Jayne’s one and only true love is just uber romantic. He blew his chance and has to live with the memory of what could have been. That could either make him more callous or help him grow as a person. As it is with life, and especially with Jayne, were not always given second chance at love.

I’ll do my best to come up with something after I finish tackling the next chapter of my poor, neglected First Love. series. ; )

On a critical plot note - I like that you made Jayne REALLY selfish in this one, cos while he doesn't change over much in the series, there is a slight shift (from memory), and you didn't make him slightly more evolved Jayne, just crude-selfish-Jayne that he was right at the beginning, when you've actually written the beginning and this chapter months apart! So just wanted to say that that was good of you to keep that in mind, and it came through well... ok I'll stop rambling...

I love it too! Seriously, this pairing is so hot to write. The sparks fly. I bet out of all the couples on the boat, canon or fanon, Jayne and River would have the best sex. Although, I’m sure Inara could give someone a nice time. ;-p

I wrote the prologue about a month ago after I fished the final chapter. Since River and Jayne were never a couple during the series, I thought it would be fun to go back a take a glimpse into their relationship and contrast it with the Mal/River epi. Also an excuse to write more Rayne and smutty goodness. : D
