No Event || Intro || Open

This... was not the captain's office.

Hand hanging uselessly in the air where a doorknob should have been, Aphrim looked up from the sheaf of papers in his other hand and stared in blank confusion at his unfamiliar surroundings. Gone were the drab gray walls of the precinct and the distinct smell of something faintly resembling piss. Instead, they ( Read more... )

[OOC: Welcome! Dunno if you'd noticed, but the location of romancedressing's recently been changed to the Gardens of Eternia, so I'm a little unsure as to whether there'd be a coffee shop in there or not. /idk. Anyways, welcome again! Meet Carol. More info's on her profile, but essentially she's a single mother, a somewhat famous research scientist, het, and of the Reboot!Star Trek fandom.]

The sudden appearance of the man had startled Carol, who had when he popped up tripped over her own feet in surprise. Pushing herself back to her feet just in time to hear him curse to himself, she looked towards him with a sad smile.

"I've heard that's most people's initial reaction to coming here, but this is the first time I've seen it with my own eyes- or heard it with my own ears, in this case. Welcome, even though you probably don't want to be here. I'm Carol."

[ooc: I had not. My understanding of the DR atm is a little rickety. I was hoping the "no event" might clear that confusion but I'll keep it in mind for future posts. Thank you!]

The thud of a body meeting the floor was a touch delayed in reaching Aphrim's ears, for whatever reason. It wasn't until Carol began speaking to him that he actually noticed her presence, which was probably remiss of him, especially when you considered his line of work. Still, having apparently been randomly teleported to an unknown location, he was allowed to be a little slack in his vigilance.

Turning sideways to look at her, he raised an eyebrow at her brief introduction and forced a somewhat rueful smile onto his lips. "Hi Carol, I'm Aphrim." He replied, tone a little bemused at how surreal this situation was. "Need to know where "here" is before I can make an opinion."

[OOC: No worries. =) I'm sure there are a few mod posts around that may offer insight if you need it. Hope you don't mind if I make the switch in here, though?]

Carol had been just as disoriented upon first arriving in the Gardens, so Aphrim was more likely than not forgiven for his momentary obliviousness. She'd needed the moment to recover from the somewhat embarrassing fall, anyways.

Brushing off a few blades of grass, Carol smiled a little in reply, "Aphrim. Nice to meet you. 'Here' is essentially a place called the Gardens of Eternia. It's a world between worlds, of sorts. Beings from all over the universes have been brought here by a mysterious figure called the Earl to apparently, and I quote, 'find something we didn't have before.' If anyone's been told what though, they're not sharing, although there are some theories from some old-timers."

[ooc: Nah~]

Standing there, one hand around the papers and the other hanging idly at his side, Aphrim listened to Carol's explanation and, frankly? Took it much more calmly than he should have. It might have had something to do with the fact that this entire situation was entirely too familiar for comfort.

Unbidden images came to him of a fateful, stormy night. (As cliche as that might sound.) Of standing on a porch, soaked to the bone and looking up at a woman in a kimono, offering him coffee.

Jinx had always been a funny one.

"You gotta be kidding me." He finally said with a look that was a cross between exasperation and amusement. "And we're jarred in until we find it?"

Truth be told, Carol was a little surprised at how well the man was taking it, but in both her world and here she'd had experiences that caused her to accept things as they came, so she made no comment on it.

A small, somewhat bitter chuckle escaped Carol's mouth at his query. "Not kidding right now, I'm afraid." And damn if that wasn't frustrating. She was supposed to be back in her universe, doing things, not wandering a random -albeit pretty- garden that more often than not lured her into a strange sense of security and serenity. "And as far as I can tell, no. Sometimes these doorways'll pop up that will lead you to different places, but thus far no one's found one that looks like home to any of us."
