School of courting?
All Mahaado's life, he had been trained as a magician, taught to use magic in the defense of the, then, Prince. Once he graduated from his classes his role became a body guard/captain of the palace guards to the now Pharaoh. Not that Mahaado had a kind and gracious teacher, the scars on his back would be testimony to that fact. But that was 'all' he was taught, court behavior, fighting, such things meant for the battlefields.
So relationships? No clue. Some how Mahaado found himself shuffled off to a garden with roses, with a note that he was to take a new class. But as to what that class was? No clue.
So he sat on a marble bench among a maze work of rose bushes waiting.
