Arranged Marriage | Open?

Much as she would have liked to be able to complain, the truth was that Kanan really... didn't have any right to do so. She'd agreed to this silly 'arrangement' business, thinking that it was like another of her mother's projects-- only to find that not only was her mother not joking, but she'd actually finish this particular undertaking (unlike the seven afghans piled in a basket in her parents' living room). By the time she'd gotten the voicemail on her PHS, it was too late to backpedal her way out. Her mother's 'get my daughter to stop working all the time and focus on her womanly destiny' gambit was about to play out, and there was literally nothing Kanan could do to stop it short of uproot herself from everything.

All she'd specified was that whoever it was be someone who lived close to work. This might have been a bad idea. Because now Kanan didn't know whether she was about to marry an old man or some young, insufferable jerk. And now that she was strapped into a truly ostentatious dress, her hair had been done up elaborately, and she had been told to wait in the parlor, there was no escaping it. And he'd probably be someone who would have agreed with her mother, and expect her to settle down at home and prepare for the inevitable explosion of children.

Well, maybe she could scare him off after the wedding and call it 'incompatibility'. That'd buy her, what, a few months respite?

The things she did to maintain family peace. Really.
