How the sprout got her name...
Some people have asked me why I chose to name my new daughter Romaine Katherine. I guess they wonder why I would name her after me. Well, the explanation is actually quite simple.
When my mother was pregnant with me my father expressed interest in naming me. Up until that point my father hadn't really taken an active role in naming his kids. I guess he figured this was his last chance. After a couple of bad choices that were vetoed by my mother (THANK THE GODS!) my father came up with the name Romaine. He decided upon that name because he had an aunt named Romaine who he says was one of the most beautiful women he ever saw. I have one of the few pictures of her and she was indeed a beautiful girl.
As a child I hated my name because everyone called me lettuce head. It wasn't until I got to be an adult that I came to understand the unique nature of my name. My father had given me perhaps the greatest gift ever. My father passed away many years ago and now that I am a parent I wanted to find a way to honor him and remember him. Sharing his gift with my own daughter seemed like the perfect way to do just that.
As for the Katherine part...well I just liked it! lol.
