By the way...
Oh yeah... Forgot to write about last Wednesday. I made a trip back to the old office at PENREN, to attend a going-away party for a couple of my former coworkers. It was a lot of fun, and a lot of them were very surprised to see me -- apparently, the poeple who knew I would be there kept it a secret. I have to say, even with new hires since I left and new offices for the team as well, it felt like nothing had changed. Which was some ways good and some ways bad -- it made me feel right at home for the few hours I was there, but I know I still wouldn't have been happy there if I'd stayed.
It was also interesting to see the reactions people have had to the Lockheed Martin takeover (Sytex, my old company, got bought by Lockheed a week after I left. How's that for timing?). Everyone was very blatantly displaying their Sytex mugs, pens, lanyards, etc. Not a single Lockheed Martin logo to be seen. It was kind of funny, actually, in an odd sort of way.
I headed back to work around 1:30, and got in by 2:00. I'd planned to just work a couple of hours and head home, and make up the hours during the rest of the pay period. Instead, I ended up staying till almost 7:00PM, setting up a new server. Actually, I didn't mind that at all -- I was having fun, and was really in my element. That's the kind of thing I really enjoy doing, and I'm getting to do a lot more of the Server Management stuff since I switched jobs. Speaking of which, I'm about 3 weeks shy of the 6-month mark. It sure doesn't feel like that long -- time's really flying. I made it off the Help Desk shift a couple of months early, too, which has allowed me time to get involved in a lot of projects, too. All in all, last week made me absolutely certain I'd made the right decision in coming here.
